Studio Katia January 2020 Release Blog Hop | Valentine's Day Cards

Hello friends and welcome to Studio Katia's January 2020 Release Blog Hop.

If you have already joined the hop you will have arrived from my friend Kaja's Blog. Once you scroll all the way through the post I will tell you where your next stop is. So let's get started! For my cards today I thought I would create Valentine's Themed cards since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, but as you will see these could also be made for other occasions all year round.

#1 CARD DETAILS

For my first Valentine's Card, I started by stamping out the bees from the new HONEY BEES stamp set, colored them in using Copic Markers and then die-cut them with the coordinating HONEY BEES DIES.

Next, I blended out the rainbow background using a combination of Distress Oxide Inks (see supply list below) and then misted the paper to distress the background. I then die cut the MICRO HEXAGON COVER and glued it onto the background. While the ink was still wet I poured on some of the SPARKLE GLITTER, surprisingly I didn't have to use any glue to bond the sparkle but I did shake off ass much of the sparkle that I could.

I then popped up the bees using some FOAM TAPE and glued on to them the heart and envelope. To the bees, I also added some Liquid Pixie Dust, white gel pen detailing and glossy accents to their antennas.

The sentiment banner I used comes from the new PEONY TRIMMINGS + BANNER DIES set, love the variety of sizes and banners that come in the set.

On the inside of the card, I added the bee mine stamp from the HONEY BEES set.

#2 CARD DETAILS

For my second Valentine's Card, I created a shaker combining a few of the new dies from the release.

I began by creating the shaker heart for the center of the card. To do this I die cut a few layers of the two larger FANCY SCALLOP HEARTS dies together to create the shaker frame. Next, I stacked and glued the frames together then added a piece of acetate to the back of the heart.

I then cut the base for the shaker using the larger scallop heart. Onto the heart, I added my shaker bits which included the new MAJESTIC GLITTER, SPARKLING HEARTS CONFETTI GLITTER and IRIDESCENT CRYSTALS. I then added a thin piece of FOAM TAPE along the heart frame and closed up the shaker by aligning it with the bottom heart of the shaker.

The next thing I did was die cut the outside scallop frame for the card using the dies from the DOTTED PATTERNS SET 4. To add another touch of pink to the card I used the HEART- FETTI Stencil and applied a pink Glimmer Paste to a piece of white cardstock that I had cut down to size to fit behind the frame.

I then mounted the background frame onto the card base to which I first glued a red card front onto. I then popped the shaker heart in the center of the card and added the layered "love you" onto the center of the heart and off to the side I added the die-cut "xoxo" that come from the new LOVELY WORDS DIES.

To finish off the card I added a layer of Liquid Pixie Dust to the white die-cut letters.

Happy Mail Just Beecause | 3D Post Box Card | Honey Bee Stamps

Hello, my Honey Bee Friends! 

Today I have a super cute Box Card to share with you, in fact, it is a 3D Post Box Card using the new POST BOX CARD BASE DIES from the latest BEE MINE Release. I am not going to lie and tell you this was a quick and easy card because it took about 3 hours to make and probably could have been made faster but I was figuring things out as I created it. So I will share with you my process and what I would do differently to make it easier for you if you wanted to create something like this 😉

CARD DETAILS

Here I have compiled some images of my process to make things more visual for you.

1. Die-cut 4 of the Post Box Panels.
2. To create the side panel for the box card I die cut 2 pieces of the connector die (12 total)
3. Bend the die-cut pieces at the scoreline.
4. Glue the 2 pieces together to create one side panel connector for each layer of the box card.

5. You will need to create 6 connectors pieces.

6. Line up the connector with the outer edge of the post box panel and glue in place.

7. Push flat the connector piece and add glue to the flap. 

8. Attach the next panel in place lining it up with the scored edge and repeat steps 6-8 for the remainder of panels.

9. Glue connectors onto the other side of the box and connect the coordinating panel.
10. Repeat until all panels are connected. As you build the box, before the glue completely dries, bend the panels from side to side to ensure they fold flat each way.
11. Die-cut your decorative papers to cover up the panels. For the middle pieces, you do not need to cut the full Post Box panel. I just did the tops as that is what is visible.

12. Glue the patterned papers in place. For the inside pieces, I had to trim a tiny sliver on each side of the panels to make it easier to glue in place.
13. Glue on the outer and inner pieces of patterned paper. This paper comes from the SWEET ON YOU PAPER PAD.
14. Cut a strip of paper to the size of the side panels to cover up the connector pieces and glue in place.
15. Embellish the Post Box Card as desired.

MORE CARD DETAILS

To decorate and complete this card I stamped out, colored and die cut the bees from the BUSY BEE stamps set and Coordinating BUSY BEE dies.

I then used thin strips of acetate to connect a few of them in the air. To cover up the ink bleed from the coloring on the backside of the bees, I used a blank die-cut to sandwich the acetate piece.

The greeting stamp I used on the back of the Box card comes from the HI HONEY Stamp Set.

The little hearts I used to decorate the letters and the backside of the card come from POCKET FULL OF LOVE HONEY CUTS.

For the letters, I used the LOVE ENCLOSED HONEY CUTS to create both the postcard type letters and the envelopes. I then also stamped a few using the stamps from theLOVE ENCLOSED Stamp Set.

As you can see from this next photo this card will fold flat to fit into a 5x7 envelope. Keep in mind it is quite thick and will require extra postage for shipping.

WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY

If I was to recreate this project again I would have used a lighter weight paper. I used Neenah 110lbs for this, which made it too bulky. Instead, I would have used a 65lbs paper because it will be reinforced with the patterned paper making it strong enough and less bulky for mailing.

Also, I would have adhered all the patterned paper first onto the white panels then glued the pieces together. I did it the way I did to hide some of the white connections inside, but honestly, they wouldn't have been that noticeable.

Plaid Background Valentine's Day Card | Layering Die Technique | Studio Katia

Hello crafty friends!

Today I have a super cute plaid card to share with you that I created by simply rotating and flippling one die. I love stretching my supplies to create something totally new!

CARD DETAILS

To create the plaid. I used the HALF STRIPED COVER die to cut out 4 different shades of pink cardstock. I then layered each piece by either rotating or flipping the die-cut piece and glued them all together. To finish the background, I then glued the plaid layers onto a piece of red cardstock.

For the greeting, I used the stamps from KOBI'S HUGS and KISSES stamp set and to frame the sentiment I used the outer heart frames from the SHAKER HEART dies that I stacked and glued 3 times.

Here is a closer look at all the layers. To embellish the stamped hearts I added some liquid pixie dust for sparkle and then topped them off with glossy accents.

Super simple, and so pretty! The perfect card to give a friend or loved one for Valentine's Day 💓 I hope you were inspired by this layering die technique.
