Hello Friends, it feels like it's been a while! I have been soooo busy with work and life that had to take a little break from crafting.
Let's talk about last weekend... not this past weekend but a week ago May 1st weekend... I am still trying to catch up from it, lol!
Let's just say a little busy for me... On Saturday, April 30th I set up for an event that I had been planning for the last 6 months, which was a Celebration of Life for my dear friend Elaine that passed away last year during the peak of the pandemic. Sunday, May 1st was the year anniversary of her passing. Although I couldn't attend the event that I had planned for her, (story to follow) I made sure all the details were taken care of as if I had been there. Thankfully Elaine had many wonderful friends that I called on to help fulfill her wishes for her celebration and according to all that I have heard from, it was a success! Phewww, I lost lots of sleep over this event... but it was worth it all for my dear Elaine. My heart is happy knowing that it went well and my mind is a peace knowing that I fulfilled her last wish.
Unbeknown to me, May 1st was also the same day our Church would also celebrate First Holy Communion and Confirmations. My niece, my cousin's son, and God Son all celebrated their Communion on Sunday morning. Later that afternoon I had the honor of becoming a God Mother/Sponsor to a couple of young ladies that are close friends of the family. Needless to say, I had to be there for these girls. I was sad, that I couldn't attend all the events but somehow everything thankfully worked out in the end.
CARD RECIPE
To prepare for the weekend I obviously needed to make some Religious Cards for both the Communions and Confirmation. So I needed a design that I could easily replicate and make multiples fairly quickly. This first card was my initial idea for the design, but I quickly realized that this was going to take too long as the embossing involved stamping and heat embossing of multiple stamps and then fussy cutting the cross. So this was the only card I made this way.
I won't go into details on how the frameless/infinity shakers are assembled only that I used a shaker pocket to make the process more streamlined. For a DIY version of the pockets click HERE.
The gold embossed image was done using the Floral Cross from Studio Katia on vellum paper. The sentiments I used come from the Praying Big Time stamps and coordinating die set from Honey Bee Stamps. For the background of each of the cards, I used the Spring Leaves A2 Pierced Cover Plate. For filler shaker bits, I used a variety of sequins such as the flowers and stars you will see, I won't link to them as many have been discontinued, but for each card, I did use the Cross Glitter.
The next four cards were designed exactly the same, using diffrent colors for a little personalization. These cards feature the Shaker Simple Cross Die from Studio Katia. To keep things simple, I kept the cross die-cut pieces together by adding tape to the back of them to hold all the pieces together. For these cards I also stamped the sentiments on the inside panel of the shaker using the Praying Big Time stamps.
The Bless Script sentiment also comes from the Praying Big Time stamps, then it was die cut using the coordinating die set.
So here are the steps to streamline the multiple cards:
- Dry emboss all the background panels using the Spring Leaves A2 Pierced Cover Plate.
- Stamp out the sentiments on all the panels using the Misti.
- Stamp the Bless out 4 times and die cut with the coordinating die.
- Wrap panels using the A2 Shaker Creator Pocket leaving one side open.
- Fill with shaker bits.
- Die-cut Simple Shaker Cross.
- Glue Cross to the front of the Shaker.
- Glue the die-cut script Bless to the top of the Cross.
- Finish the Cross with a coordinating pearl.
- Attach shaker front to the card base.
As you saw, the difference in these cards was just the colors and the shaker bits to coordinate.
Honestly, I made these last 4 cards in under an hour and a half. Coming up with the design took the longest part of that. But once I had it figured out it went quickly.
I hope you were inspired by my cards today. I know it's Communion and Confirmation season and hopefully, these will inspire you to create some Religious Shakers if you need them.
Thank you for stopping by and until next time... Happy Crafting!
