Gray Skies Bring Sunny Days - DIY Shaker Card | November Picket Fence Studios Release

Adorable handmade shaker card featuring a bunny and raccoon sharing a colorful umbrella on a rainy day, with sparkly clouds, a stone wall, and shaker sequins, created using Picket Fence Studios November release products.

Hello, crafty friends! I'm excited to share my latest project, a whimsical shaker card featuring the adorable "Bad Weather Friends" from the brand-new November Picket Fence Studios release. This card is part of an Instagram hop to celebrate the release, where you can hop along for some fantastic inspiration. And there's an extra treat—a $50 Gift Card is up for grabs for one lucky winner chosen from the entire hop! Be sure to head over to Instagram to join in the fun and enter.

CARD RECIPE

Background and CloudsFirst I added a light layer of grey ink to the sky. I then began by creating a cloudy background using the Cloudy Day Stencil. The clouds are brought to life with a touch of shimmer from the Twinkle Lights Silver Paper Glaze, applied with a Mixed Media Spatula for a smooth, even finish. This glaze adds a perfect touch of sparkle, making the clouds stand out against the rest of the scene. Set aside to dry.

Stone Wall Texture: The stone wall at the bottom was created using the new Beyond Basics A2 Vintage Rectangles and Cover Plates. Distress Oxide Inks helped achieve a realistic stone texture, which grounds the scene and adds a cozy, rainy-day feel. I trimmed the piece and added it to the bottom of the scene.

Critters and Sentiment: The little critters sharing an umbrella are from the Bad Weather Friends Stamp Set. I stamped them with PFS Black Hybrid Ink for a sharp, clear image, then colored them with Copic Markers for a vibrant, cheerful look, and added white gel pen details for highlights. I then used the coordinating dies to cut out the critters. The sentiment "Gray Skies Bring Sunny Days" is stamped to the side, echoing the card’s theme of hope and resilience.

Shaker Elements: To make this a shaker card, I used DIY Shaker Sheets to create the shaker pocket. Inside, I added a mix of Iridescent Moonshine Sequins for a bit of sparkle, and Day and Night Gems to represent raindrops. The result is a dynamic, interactive element that adds extra fun to the card.

Finishing Touches: Glue the critters to the top of the shaker window, and then glue the shaker panel to a Beyond Basics A2 Vintage Rectangle Frame. Finally, attach it to a card base.

Merry & Bright Holiday Shaker Card | Picket Fence Studios

Christmas shaker card, interactive card, shaker card, paper glaze, Picket Studios, Deck the Halls stamp set, cardmaking tutorial, handmade Christmas card, DIY shaker card, Christmas card ideas, paper glaze

Hello my Crafty Friends!

Today's vibrant Christmas shaker card is part of the new Picket Fence Studio's September release and brings together a delightful blend of holiday colors and textures. Here’s how I combined some of the stunning products from this collection to create a festive, interactive card, perfect for spreading holiday cheer!

Background Prep:
You’ll need two of the same Watercolour Christmas A2 card fronts for this card. This is so that when you cut the shaker window from the front panel, it will align perfectly with the back panel image, creating a cohesive look through the window. The vivid wintery scene serves as the perfect backdrop for the shaker design.

Creating the Shaker:
Start by cutting the shaker window from the front panel using the 2.5” Connected Circle Shaker Creator Die. Then, adhere a piece of acetate to the back of this panel, covering the window opening. Line the edges of the window and the rest of the panel with foam tape to create depth for the shaker.

Next, place the festive sequins, onto the background panel, concentrating them where the window opening will be. Carefully adhere the top panel to the bottom, ensuring the edges are lined up. For a flawless alignment, I recommend using a corner ruler—simply align the top of each panel in the corner and press them together for perfect placement.

Adding the Sentiment:
For the “Merry Christmas” sentiment, I used the Merry Christmas Word Die and die-cut the words from paper glazed with Holly Leaf Green and Christmas Cardinal Red Paper Glaze. The dimensional shine of the glaze really makes the sentiment pop.

Finishing Touches:
To complete the greeting, I stamped "and a Happy New Year" using the Deck the Halls Stamp with Picket Studios Black Hybrid Ink onto the same piece of paper that I had die-cut Merry from in the Christmas Cardinal Red Paper Glaze, then die-cut it and adhered it over the top of the word dies.

For extra shine and detail, I also added coordinating gems to the greenery of the scene using Northpole Gem Mix gems.

This shaker card from the PFS September release captures the joy of the holiday season with its playful design, festive colors, and interactive shaker elements. The combination of watercolors, dimensional paper glaze, and a mix of bold and elegant sentiments makes this card a standout piece for Christmas greetings. I hope this inspires you to create your own festive shaker cards!

Thank you for stopping by I will share a Reel over on Instagram as well to show you how this came to life and until next time... Happy Crafting!
