Hello Crafty Friends!
Today I'm super excited to share with you a card I have been working on for a while I'm calling it my Oceans of Love DIY Bendy Card. I will be entering this card in the My Favorite Things 2017 Superstar Card Contest.
This year they have 3 categories... Clean and Simple, Coloring Virtuoso, and Innovation Master which is where I'm entering this DIY bendy card!
It's kind of difficult to see but the acetate panels bend to form an arch around the front of the card creating this beautiful dimensional underwater scene. Since I didn't have any wave dies, I used a scalloped border die to create the waves, and it worked perfectly!
I colored the stamped images in using my Zig Clean Color Brushes. The background was created by blending and distress oxide inks and using water in areas to create the splatter effect. All supplies are linked at the end of this post.
Here is a close up of all these MFT Cuties.
I wanted to make sure that this card looked good from all angles, so placement of my images was really important. This way when the card is folded flat no image is obstructed by another one.
Here is a top view so you can see how it forms the arch/bendy part in front. It also acts as the support keeping the card upright for display.
If you have ever used acetate you know that it is quite stubborn as it always wants to straighten out. This makes it a little difficult when you want to fold it flat for mailing. To make it easier to insert it into an envelope, I found using a twine really helped. It held the panels in place and at the same time it made the card look like a little gift. Well, who wouldn't want to receive this card, right!?!
Since it's easier to show you than to explain things, I recorded the process video for it. I have to warn you it is a bit lengthy, but I think it's helpful for those wanting to see how you can make your own.
