Let the Sun Shine In - Mixed Media Painting

Hello Sunshine!

It's finally Spring here, but it still looks like winter outside! Nevertheless, I can't wait for the sunny and warm Spring weather ahead :)

Today I want to share with you all my latest mixed media painting. I'm so addicted to this craft already! It's the perfect blend of paper, paint, modgepoge and embellishments.  I love how it turned out, and was super excited to give it away to a friend of mine that was in need of a little sunshine in her life! Hope that when she looks at this, it will make her day will feel a little brighter ;)

The paper I used was all scrap pieces of paper I've collected through the years of papercrafting that I had no idea what to do with. I just free hand cut out the flower. I did however use my silhouette machine to cut out the stamped letters. I finally got a chance to try out my pixscan mat. Click HERE to see what the pixscan is all about!

Hard to see from a picture, but there is so much detail and texture on this painting... I LOVE it!!!

Here is a step by step look at how the painting evolved!

I hope this has inspired my fellow paper crafters (or anyone else intersted) to try out this type of painting... If you are a crafter, I'm sure you have tones of scrap paper you could use up! For those of you wanting to try this, I would recommend watching some You Tube videos and then just go for it! You'll be amazed at what a little paint, paper, modgepoge and creativity can make!

First Communion Cards | SVGCuts

This past weekend our God Daughter Aleina along with a few other little friends of ours, celebrated their First Holy Communion. Big deal for these young men and women! So of course I had to whip up some Communion cards.

I think these cards could be used for various other religious events!

The file for the cross, chalice, and dove come from SVGCuts Christian Elements SVG Collection. The base of the card and the layers were created using basic shapes in the Silhouette DE program

Here are a few more close-up pictures of each card! Very happy with how they turned out :)

Had to make a few Shakers!

Lucky U - Shamrock Treat Box | SVGCuts

Have you seen the latest SVGCuts, Feeling Lucky SVG Kit? If you haven't, you must!!! It was SO worth the wait :) Check it out HERE!

I immediately fell in LOVE with the Shamrock Box, and of course, had to drop everything and make it right away! Usually, I wait for Mary's how-to videos to see how to put it together, but I really couldn't wait,  LOL! It took some figuring it out but it all came together nicely :)

Hope this has inspired you to create some St. Patrick's Day projects of your own. Anyone receiving this will surely feel "LUCKY"!

Growing Up Too Fast - Mixed Media Painting

For the longest time I have been wanting to paint a mixed media painting. After spending many hours watching how to You Tube videos, and much encouragement from my friend and artist Kathy Helton, I finally got the courage to try it out!  I can already tell you that I am addicted and can't wait to create my next painting!

What started off as a blank canvas and scrap pieces of paper, eventually morphed into a painting of my daughter, well her futuristic self I would say. The face I drew to use on my painting reminded me of her and so I let it guide the rest of my painting. My daughter Maia is 8 years old but sometimes she acts like shes 18, where has my baby gone?... this is happening way too fast for me! I guess this painting became a reflection of my feelings.

Well what do you think?!?
I'll tell you what I think.... I'm in LOVE with it and so is my daughter! I am SO happy with how the painting turned out :)

Hidden in the painting are the letters of my daughter's name. She hasn't found them yet and I'm not going to tell her either... one day she will realize that they are there and hopefully feel surprised.

Take a look at how the painting came together.

For those interested in the supplies I used, here is my list:
1, 9x9 canvas, scrap paper, modge podge, paint brushes, acrylic paints, scissors, stamps, ink pads, copic markers, gel pens, buttons, rhinestones, sequins, blow dryer (if you're impatient like me). Oh, and really dirty hands!

The picture below shows you what the finished painting looks like up on the wall.
I love how a really inexpensive IKEA frame completes the painting! Want to know how to do the same? Here is my secret... Take the glass off the front of the shadow box frame and place the glass behind the mat, this way you can keep the glass together with the frame if you ever what to change the picture out. Then all I did was hot glue the painting to the center of the mat. Voila, now you have a gallery like painting!

3D Paper Minecraft Creeper Treat Box - FREE FILE

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I have been a bit MIA recently, work and life has been getting in the way of my crafting... how dare that happen, LOL! Anyways today I'm SO excited to share with you my D.I.Y. MINECRAFT Creeper Paper Treat Box/Toy!

Last week I volunteered at my children's school for Option Day. I thought it would be fun to do a few 3D papercrafts with a group of children from grades 4-6. In my group, I had 6 boys and 2 girls. Most of the projects I had planned were quick Easter SVG Cuts projects, but being that there were so many boys I thought it would be fun to have something the boys could relate to, plus many girls love MINECRAFT too! So I made my own Creeper file for them :)

HOW aWeSoMe are THEY!?! So easy and quick to assemble, a great papercraft to create with the kids. I think they would also be perfect for a birthday party activity or treat for guests to take home!

I wished I had taken some pictures of the kid's creations but unfortunately the time flew by so quickly that I really didn't get a chance. Thank goodness I had a really good helper, Amanda who is also a parent and the Librarian at the school, she really saved me that day! Without her, we wouldn't have been able to get through all the projects I had planned!

Below is the link to the FREE File for you all! I really wanted to make it accessible for everyone (not just for those with electronic cutters) so I created it in a few different formats!

Gumball Machine Shaped Birthday Card | SVGCuts

 Hey Everyone!

Today I have a  couple of cute cards I made for some upcoming birthdays. I thought it would be fun to use this file from An Afternoon at Auntie Elaine's SVG Collection (gumball machine file) and turn it into a shaker card. I had never done a shaker card before and thought it would be cool!

How cute did this card turn out?! I absolutely love it!
Can't wait to make some more shaker cards!!!
SO fun and interactive, I'm sure the kids will love it!

#SVGCuts,Silhouette Cameo,Craftin Desert Divas Stamp,Gumball Machine Shaped Birthday Card,SVG Cuts file,ilovedoingallthingscrafty,

The file for this card comes from SVGCuts An Afternoon at Auntie Elaine's SVG Collection.

To create the shaker portion of the card, I used a foam layer that I cut using the Silhouette Cameo. TIP: To cut foam I just set my speed to the lowest setting and my blade to the deepest setting and used a double cut. Worked really well but didn't cut all the way through. So I slowly pulled away from the foam shape around the cut lines and it tore really easily! Next time I think I will try doing another double cut without moving or unloading the mat.

For this card, before gluing together the back layer of the gumball machine I stamped it with a cute stamp from Craftin Desert Divas - Happy Celebrations

For this next card, I used buttons.
I always have way too many laying around, this was the perfect way to use some!

This stamp comes form Craftin Desert Divas - Simply Said

This time I stamped the card on the inside of the card and created a window by using two acetate sheet layers and sandwiching the foam in between them.

Hope you've enjoyed these super "sweet" gumball-shaped shaker cards!

DIY Laundry Sign

Happy Holidays Everyone!

This year 14 of our family members and friends spent Christmas in Cuba! I do have to say I think Cuban beaches must be some of the most beautiful in the world and am SO happy we got to spend our week there. I miss the beach already!

Here is a picture of how Santa came to Cuba! Check out that crystal clear water... sigh!!!

Sadly once the vacation is over, reality always sets in and loads of laundry need to be done. Not sure about you all but every article of clothing I pack needs to be washed (even if unworn) especially when coming from a humid climate. So for the last few days I have been tackling my least favorite chore, LAUNDRY!

Here is an iphone pic of what my laundry room looks like today :(
And there is still more to fold in the dryer!

So lets get to the reason for today's post!!!

Over the last few months I have been tackling various parts of my house by painting, cleaning, purging and even redecorating. Today I want to share with you the sign I made for my Laundry Room/Mud Room. Honestly I think the Laundry Room is my least favorite room in the house. Mostly because doing it is my least favorite thing to do! So I thought maybe if I prettied it up, I might enjoy the time I spend in there, well maybe a little!

Having seen various laundry signs all over Pinterest, I thought I could make my own... of course I did! Isn't that what everyone that looks on Pinterest does? LOL!  Well I am SO happy with the results! I took ideas from various signs and combined them to make my own! Well what do you think? SO true, right!?!

I used the PVPP technique to create this sign. For those that don't know what that means it's Paint, Vinyl, Paint, and Peel. Lots of tutorials on line for those of you interested. Basically I painted white a 12x24 wood board (bought at Micheal's). Cut out my Vinyl using the Silhouette Cameo, and transferred it to my board. Then, once the letters were all down I painted with the black all over the entire board. Once the paint dried, I peeled off the vinyl to reveal the white letters. I then took sandpaper and lightly sanded the edges and the top to distress it. Voila, that easy!

The whole process took less then 30 min to make! To speed the drying time I used a blow dryer... hey what can I say, sometimes I can be a little impatient!

TIP: If you want to avoid the bleeding of the letters, once you apply the vinyl add another white coat first, this will seal the edges around the letters. Then add the black coat. I didn't really want perfect letters as I wanted it to look more vintage and distressed!

For all those interested in creating one for yourselves I am giving away the .studio file that I created to make the sign for FREE! Maybe it will help you enjoy the laundry room a little more as well! Enjoy!!!
